I – Brushing

Brushing not only removes dead hair, but also acts to regenerate the hair.

By combining a mechanical action, brushing stimulates the micro blood circulation at the base of the hair. This :

• Encourages regrowth and undercoat; very important for the winter.
• Removes dead hair and lightens the coat; less hot in summer.

How to brush a German Spitz?

Do not brush the hair dry. Use a moisturising and detangling spray for long-haired dogs to make brushing easier and avoid breaking the hair.

Brush with a long-nosed brush and then a wide-tooth comb. Use a carding machine to remove knots and dead hairs.

Don’t just brush the top. You need to brush the coat deeply so that you can reach the down and brush it out, aerating it.

II – Bathing & drying

Bathing :

Wet your German Spitz, but do not pour water into its ears and eyes.

Soap with a suitable shampoo and conditioner for long hair with a neutral PH and/or Keratin base. Start with the head and finish with the tail, don’t forget the belly, legs …

The skin and hair will be nourished, moisturised …

Rinse your dog thoroughly.

 

Drying :

Dry with a towel and then use the hairdryer. Dry your dog well to prevent parasites and small fungi from growing in the badly dried fur. A good drying will make brushing the hair easier!

III – maintenance of claws, teeth, eyes and ears

Claws :

cut only a few millimetres of the nails (the nerve may be very long) so as not to hurt your dog. Use a special nail clipper for dogs. If you have damaged a claw and it is bleeding, put a small compress on it and use an anti-bleeding powder.

Teeth :

are to be brushed regularly in order to limit the appearance of tartar and the proliferation of bacteria. Brush your pet’s teeth with a toothbrush and special dog toothpaste.

Eyes and ears:

to be checked weekly to ensure that there is no evidence of dirt or infection.

Clean the eyes by applying a suitable product (ocryl) or saline solution. Wipe with a compress or paper towel. (Never cotton as tiny cotton fibres may remain and irritate the eye).
